Farming a Dead art?
Ok, let me start off by saying not everyone farms i know. I also know that not all areas are dead.
I do however think they killed farming. Take for instance the ecto. Who hasnt gotten an ecto latly? Now that decreases the value ALOT! Now onto other things. Like for instance 55 Monk/55 Necro/Tank farming of trolls. How in the world can anyone be happy killing lvl20^ creatures and getting 99% blue/white drops. This isnt just in troll caves eather.
Now i want to bring up other points. Anet doesnt allow gold selling legally. Which makes anyone who does buy gold have to pay an arm and a leg. Personally i dont want or need to buy that gold. It does seem like its coming to that though. I run a group of farmers "Farm the World Guild". We farm from tombs, sorrows furnace, trolls, griffens, factions locations, and UW/FoW. The farming has gone to crap and i am tired of it.
For instance, who cant get an ecto so the price dropped. I used to get atleast 1 black dye a week. Havnt gotten one since factions came out. Yet the game company has limited the supplies merchants can sell. They also nerfed half the farming abilities. Then they never lowered the prices on goods such as armour and weapons at smiths.
I think this is about the end of what i can take. It used to be that if you wanted a good weapon you went farming and went out and bought it. Now finding a good mod or weapon is like hunting the red october.
I dont sit around and brag about farming or what i have from farming. Neather do i sell my gold. Though these game devolpers are stopping me from being able to earn gold. I used to make 30k a day troll farming for 9 hours. It will now take me 4 days to earn that.
All i am getting at is this. The nerfing must stop!
P.S. I was told to come voice my opinion on the dev corner here so i could get my opinion out and show that i am not the only one tired of the nerfing.

You have to be flexible and adapt. I used to farm ettins for runes, but it just doesn't pay anymore.
I found a new area that fits the changing market of materials to better suit the new demands that are out there. And there are no bot farmers there, so it is still good.
And I am not telling anyone where it is.

Its not about being rich. Ok think about it this way. Without farming there is no one to buy what mods and weapons you sell. Without you selling and buying those weapons you dont get what you want. Basicly people are going to turn to the gold selling companies and then we all end up screwed.
Also its not about the gold really its about the aspect that with all the new weapons and items people are trying to buy and sell. they nerfed the ways we earn gold so then its really becomeing a dead market.

The drops aren't getting worse, you are farming in areas where everyone else is. Pretty sure that the ammount of people that farm an area has an effect on the drops.
If you go and do chest runs in Factions areas you can get items worth millions of gold. The problem is selling them. Becuase the only drops that give good money and drop commonly are weapons, and not items which can be sold to NPCs, there is a lack of hard cash floating around in the game's economy.
Solution: Amber. Jade. Ecto. Shards. Weapons.
Of course, the first four will be exhausted in time. Perhaps people will start resorting to just trading items and minipets instead of actually using money >.>

Solo farming may have taken a nerf, but group farming will always be around.
Take a group of close friends and do high level missions or fow, or uw. Bring lotsa keys.

nope
each instance is a set map with no connection to any other persons instance.
otherwise the bots would be eliminating each others loot

there are finally plenty of gold sinks in the game that the people are using hoarded gold and putting it back into the game instead of reselling it to Gold Exchanges... This was brilliant move on Anets part. it has sufficiently drove the price down almost game wide on every item to reasonable levels... And for that matter made the accumulation of goodies almost a redundant effort. Its just a matter of finding the skin you want now I guess. basically fight a few bosses and whamo you got a decent goodie. Thus farming is not really a huge requirment in the game. Never was, but some loved to think so...
The key thing is the huge gold sinks, and that is finally a good thing... And yes they are 100% optional... I mean you can sink gold in any number of armors, in services for guild halls, in dyes, in keys, good god all kinds of stuff. and everyone OPTIONAL to the game overall. but if you invest in them they normally yeild something decent for your character eventually...
The Locked Chests were prob the best thing to be implamented as it made it much more expensive to SOLO run chests and MUCH MUCH more lucrative to go in large groups to grab chests... Same with teh boss green drops... The larger the group the faster the boss goes down and a green drops rather regularly now... Not to mention the addition of amber and jadeite Items acquired via Faction and used for gold generation OR crafting... Salvage all around is improved IMHO... Making it possible for ANYONE to attain something decent, and not cutting out some new guy that makes them believe they have to buy gold to acquire anything good. Which is far from the truth...
All because of Really good gold sinks that mean more gold is being transferred back into the game NPCs and not hoarded into 3rd party resell exchanges... End result. Not to much demand for massive amounts of gold... 3rd party exchanges hurt badly... Anet and GW community celebrates another victory for a fair and fun gaming world.

To the OP: you don't deserve gold drops for performing the skilless act that is troll farming; quite frankly I think they should nerf that area too, so that farming will require some small measure of competence.

I think farming is down, mainly because....what is there to buy? All there is pretty much, is armor. (Please don't say..buy a mini pet for 100k!!). Weapons, especially for casters, are terrible, except for the greens and collectors items. I've never seen a gold caster's item that I would actually use. The only stuff that is actually sellable are warrior and ranger weapons.

I've have played over 1,500 hours and soloed almost all of prophecies (without henchmen) TWICE, and have gotten a whopping 2 Black dye drops during that entire time.
It's like someone winning the lottery and subsequently complaining that "they haven't won the lottery in a while"...

well my favorite class is ranger and HEALER monk(hates 55 to death) so my usual farming is b/p or Chest Runs i have found some very good chest run places in faction where 8 out of 10 chests are gold so my farming is still fine and i find farming fun pvp isnt my thing unless i am doing flag runner or monk

I like you. You make me laugh.
Why don't you just play the game ? When you finish, you will have an amulet of the mists, currently worth 50k. If you start a new character, preferably a monk, you will be able to finish in 2 or 3 days at your 9 hr / day rate. Then, delete the character and do it again. Of course, the price of amulets will go down, but the price isn't bad right now.
Have you been to the elite missions ? I understand there are some weapons coming out of there that are quite expensive. Why don't you get your guild together and farm in there ?
I don't know if you farm for the enjoyment of farming or whatever, but if you are just trying to earn gold to buy nice weapons, all you have to do is play Factions to get nice weapons. It just doesn't make much sense to farm some of the old places in Prophecies any more. And why should anyone be rewarded for killing a group of trolls or anything else that a bot can do ?
BTW, I'm not saying 50k in 3 days is a lot, but it's worth it to me, since I get to play through all the missions and enjoy the experience along the way. If your sole objective is to make money, there are better ways, but this sure beats troll farming.

if you do troll farming with w/mo or mo/w, then you'll get at least 10k per hours.( i dont know if you farm them normally, but thats the average amount of time for me. Also, troll farming kinda went dead bout few weeks ago; since the last day that I troll farmed, i only got 2-3 drops per run.(and the usual is 10-12 drops)

Farming is an art in exactly the same way that masturbation is an art. People do it because they have nothing better to do. And neither is dead, nor likely to die, no matter how much they say it's bad for you.

How does this logic work when something I could not have afforded 6 months ago without some serious farming (2 sup absorps) are now costing me a grand total of 7K? Superior Vigor is now what, 30K? Hell, I can make that easy enough without mindless ettin or griffon farming, thank god.
So why again do I need to eBay GW gold exactly? To buy Zodiak weapons? Well, if thats what I'd really want it I'd go do some Deep runs, takes less time then farming 100K + 25 ectos and its a lot more fun.
Anything else will drop in due course for me, I have a very nice platinum sword already and perfect gold Gothic axe which dropped for me.

They nerfed the way *some* people amassed lots of gold which benefitted very few people because it kept prices insanely high for many items such as runes and rare crafting materials. I for one am more then happy with the current situation.
No, Anet did the right thing and I'd say that 95% of players will agree with me.
